Emily’s Picks

Its been my mission lately to help parent choose great toys that inspire creativity . support early communication and build language skills.  I’m excited to be teaming up with The Rocking Horse this fall to help you make great choices for your birthday gifts, toy room stock and even, dare I say, Holiday wish list!?

So many people come into a toy store with no idea what to get for a new baby, a friends 1 year old or a 4 year olds birthday party. There are SO many options that it’s hard to decide on what will be interesting, won’t fall apart, be education and so on. From a communication perspective I have to say that you can’t go wrong because toys matter in fact less that the interaction that happens WITH the toy.

When shopping for toys , keep these essential elements in mind:

  • Toys should not make loads of noise, look for toys that don’t require batteries
  • Encourage building/construction
  • Encourage active play
  • Support pretend play/imagination

I discovered some gems during my recent visits to The Rocking Horse and want to share how I suggest using them in the weeks ahead.

Pop back here in 2 weeks and get some details to make sure you are getting the best value when shopping for the children in your world.
